World-Renowned Artist for Sci-Fi, Horror, Fantasy and Sir Terry PratchettDiscworld Covers
SEATTLE, July 27, 2016–MetaArcade has announced an exclusive partnership with the estate of world-renowned illustrator Josh Kirby, providing the developer with Kirby’s art for its Tunnels & Trolls game and upcoming self-publishing MetaArcade Adventures Platform for interactive fiction. Featuring Kirby’s original creations, MetaArcade will debut the prototype of its digital remastering of Tunnels & Trolls at Gen Con, held Aug. 4-7 in Indianapolis, celebrating the game’s 40th consecutive year appearing at the convention.
David Reid, Founder & CEO of MetaArcade, said “Josh Kirby stands as one of the world’s premier fantasy artists, and we are thrilled to honor his legacy by showcasing his work in both our Tunnels & Trolls game and the beginning of the MetaArcade Adventures Platform content library.”
Born on the outskirts of Liverpool, England in 1928, Kirby’s career as an artist spanned six decades. He is best known for his iconic covers and artwork that distinguish countless titles by literary giants including Sir Alfred Hitchcock, Ian Fleming, Isaac Asimov, Jules Verne, Ray Bradbury, Edgar Rice Burroughs, H.G. Wells, and most famously, Sir Terry Pratchett of Discworld fame.
In the 1980s, Kirby created the interior art and full-color covers for a limited series of Tunnels & Trolls books, distributed at the time only in the United Kingdom. Kirby’s art for Tunnels & Trolls has largely been out of print for decades, and will now play an integral role in MetaArcade’s remastering of Tunnels& Trolls for digital platforms.
Rob Liano, Chief Marketing Officer of the Josh Kirby Estate, said “Josh was an innovative and prolific artist, and we couldn’t be more excited about partnering with MetaArcade to bring his timeless work to life for new audiences on digital platforms.”
Dedicated to designing accessible self-publishing tools for gamers, MetaArcade’s remastered Tunnels & Trolls will provide players with all of the series’ existing adventures, and allow them to create, play and publish their own adventures using the game’s rules system on the MetaArcade Adventures Platform. The platform will support development for iOS, Android, PC and Mac.
MetaArcade, founded by industry veteran David Reid in 2016, is a Seattle-area indie developer dedicated to empowering communities of creators through accessible self-publishing platforms. For more information, follow MetaArcade on Facebook and Twitter @MetaArcade, and visit www.metaarcade.com.

About Tunnels & Trolls
Tunnels & Trolls, the second role-playing game ever published, was originally designed by Ken St. Andre and published by Flying Buffalo in 1975. Among its many innovations, Tunnels & Trolls pioneered the first role-playing solo adventures, allowing greater accessibility and narrative depth for players to enjoy as an alternative to group play.
